Last updated: June 19, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Margin uses cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage and the extension’s own storage) on our marketing site, our web app, and our browser extension. Margin is operated by {{OPERATOR_NAME}}, an individual developer (sole proprietor) based in {{OPERATOR_LOCATION}}, and in this policy “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to that operator.
In short: our marketing site (the landing page and these legal pages) sets only strictly-necessary storage by default — including a small entry that remembers your cookie-consent choice. The Margin web app and extension use session/authentication cookies (strictly necessary) and functional local and extension storage (for example, to remember your active workspace and UI preferences). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Any analytics or performance cookies, if we ever introduce them, load only after you consent. This policy works alongside our Privacy Policy.

What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include browser local storage, session storage, and, in the case of the Margin extension, the extension’s own storage area. These technologies let a site or app remember information between requests or page loads — for example, that you are signed in, which workspace is active, or that you have already answered the cookie banner.
We refer to all of these technologies together as “cookies” in this policy, even though some of them are technically local or extension storage rather than HTTP cookies. We use them in the limited categories described below.
The Categories We Use
We group the storage we use into the following categories:
- Strictly necessary — no consent needed. These are required for the Service and the site to work. On the marketing site this includes a cookie or local-storage entry that remembers your cookie-consent choice. In the Margin web app and extension this includes session and authentication cookies that keep you signed in and maintain your session. Because these are essential, they are set without asking for consent; if you block them, the Service may not function.
- Functional — set with consent where required. These remember choices that improve your experience, such as your active workspace, UI preferences, and (in the extension) the local data needed to render the Shadow DOM comment overlay and power anchoring. Where the law requires consent for non-essential storage, we set these only after you consent.
- Analytics / performance — only if enabled and only after consent. We do not currently rely on advertising-driven analytics. If we ever enable analytics or performance cookies to understand how the Service is used, they will load only after you consent where consent is required, and you can decline them.
- No advertising or tracking. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not use cookies or local storage for cross-site or cross-context behavioral tracking. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising.
How We Ask for Consent
When you first visit our marketing site, we show a cookie banner. In the EU, UK, and EEA, non-essential cookies (such as functional or analytics cookies) are set only after you consent through that banner; strictly-necessary cookies are set without consent because they are required for the site to work.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and it does not affect the lawfulness of any processing that happened before you withdrew.
US Privacy (CCPA/CPRA and Global Privacy Control)
If you are a US resident, including in California, we want to be clear: we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are used under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, and we do not use cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. Where your browser or a browser extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information, to the extent applicable. You can learn more about how we handle personal information in our Privacy Policy.
How to Control Cookies
You have several ways to control cookies and similar storage:
- The cookie banner. Accept or decline non-essential cookies when the banner appears.
- The “Cookie settings” link. Use the link in the footer to change or withdraw your consent at any time.
- Your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and clear local storage. Note that blocking strictly-necessary cookies may break sign-in or other core features.
- Clearing extension storage. You can clear the Margin extension’s stored data through your browser’s extension controls, or by removing and reinstalling the extension. Doing so may reset functional preferences such as your active workspace and UI settings.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add a new category of cookie or change how we ask for consent. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. If we introduce non-essential cookies that require consent, we will ask for your consent before setting them where the law requires it.
